Welcome to our page all things INDONESIA. You need to use the Indonesian Rupiah (but the locals tend to tell you how much it is in Australia Dollar). Which is pointless unless you are an Aussie. Shopping is an experience in itself. Everything is negotiable. So let us say for example you ask how much a t-shirt is. 800,000 IDR you are told. Firstly, walk away, no t-shirt should cost $80! But if you wanna have some fun, go in with a price of 100,000IDR and settle for around 250,000k. Dont be afraid to walk away, if you have been too cheeky they will let you walk away.
Driving. My advice would be, dont! For the price of hiring a car, and paying for petrol and brides from the police you can get yourself a driver for the day. Prices are typically around 350,000 for half a day and 600,000 for a full day. Yes, there would be cheaper. But beware, and there may be many add ons such as fuel.
Publuc transport is almost non-existant, and trains do not exist. Taxis (or Taksis) are everywhere. We would advise getting a Bluebird Taxi. You can tell what these are by seeing Bluebird Group Taxi at the top of the windscreen. This is because other taxis claim to not have meters therefore charge what they want.
The major Airports vary according to where in Indonesia you are heading to. You have Jakarta in Java and Denpasar in Bali. Boats are common and easily get from one island to the other.
