The Piha Café
This cute, quirky café is about five minutes from Piha beach on the west coast of New Zealand. It’s located on the steep slant of a hill, but it has ample parking even though it was busy.
Lee and I were spoilt for choice; there is a vast array of homemade goodies to choose from. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives too.
Both of us couldn’t quite decide what to have, but we both went with the grilled chicken salad sandwich, with the additional side salad and homemade tomato chutney. It was crisp and sweet and refreshing and even better for knowing that the ingredients are free range and as local as they can be.
Well, to be honest, we didn’t pay for our meal, it was included in the tour we were on at the time, but I do remember it being very reasonable around twelve dollars for our large plateful and for the quality of food we received.
This little café was packed; we were lucky to get a table. It was a hive of activity full of locals, and that is always a sign of a good place. It has a quirky almost beach hut or shabby chic kind of vibe, really comforting and inviting and a perfect escape from the Auckland weather.
