The Interestingly Named Cock Inn Pub in East Sussex

The date was the 11th November 2017. Yes, we are a little late with this one. But we have been here more recently and the food is just as incredible. Oops, spoiler right there. I had driven past this pub I must say a hundred times. Not once had I noticed its existence.  Located about 15 minutes outside of Brighton, you will certainly need to have a car or at least figure out the nearest bus stop.

Also, worth mentioning at this point. You will need to book a table. They have very limited spaces, all of which go incredibly quickly, and in advance. This visit was for Tina’s cousins birthday so all the prior bookings were handled well in advance.

So, with those formalities out the way. What was the Cock Inn like?

Well, for all those that have followed our journey you will know we love our food. Whether it be something we have had hundreds of times before through to trying something for the first time. The Cock Inn certainly didn’t disappoint in that regard. We know that pub food can be really hit or miss so went with a completely open mind. Although we had been told that the food was to die for.

I tend to spend forever browsing the menu for what to eat. Always the last person to order, today was very different. The menu is quite small which is always a great sign that the food is likely to be homemade and not frozen or microwaved. Tina fancied their fish and chips which came with peas and tartar sauce. I, however, went for the somewhat hit and miss burger with chips and salad.

Instead of talking you through the delights that were served to us, I’ll just leave these photos below.

As you can see from a first glance, the portions were ENORMOUS! I mean, I like a good healthy portion of food. But this behemoth would give the hungriest man a run for his money (or mouth). There was nothing we could fault with either of the dinners that came.

The price you ask? Well, normally you would expect one of two things. Either the price to be ridiculously high, or you would get a reasonable portion of frozen/microwaved food. Here, however, you had the best of both. I hearty portion at a great price. We cannot remember the price now, but, If you look at the menu HERE you can see that the fish and chips is a great price of £11.95, and the venison burger I had is currently £12.95.

Plates were taken and feeling like having a nap. The question was asked; “Whose having dessert?” Well, I love a good dessert also, Tina even more so. We were both stuffed, but as we all know we do have a second pudding stomach. So, armed with the knowledge we both ordered the treacle pudding. Tina had ice cream, but due to my sporadic intolerances, I had custard.

As you can see from my serving it was more a case of can I have some treacle tart with that custard rather than having some treacle tart with that custard..All jokes aside though, you will fall in love with the food that the Cock Inn has.

Our Top Tips

  • Book yourself a table,
  • Go hungry as the portions are huge, and
  • If you have mobility you might need to give the pub a call to find out how they can help.
