Mmm, this plaice was incredible. It has so much sole, and you had batter get there before you miss out. Ok, so enough of the fish puns and on to a more serious matter.
We arrived during the busy period on a Thursday evening. Parking was not the issue. However, be prepared not to get a space on busy nights.
So unlike so many ‘chippies’, you have a restaurant style outside dining and a fully licensed bar! Yes, a bar inside one of the best seafood joints you will ever eat at. So, of course, we had to sample a little taste of everything. So a seafood platter for two was ordered, the platter came with everything we wanted, your choice of fish (we chose Barramundi both breaded and battered, prawn cutlets, calamari rings, and we ordered a side order of Moreton Bay bugs).
We had never eaten Moreton Bay Bugs before but once you have tried them at Simply Tops Seafood, I am sure you will be hard pushed to find any
batter, I mean better. Perfectly succulent, and something we would go back for again and again.
So the fish came. It was huge, and skinless!! certainly not something we get back home without pissing off the fry cook as he needs to skin the fish prior to cooking. This made all the differnce. The batter on mine was just devine. Super cripsy and incredibly light, almost a tempora lightness about it. You can taste the freshness, and something the owner George said about all the fish being caught out at sea earlier that day.
With a great atmosphere, and weather so great all year round us delicate poms certainly didnt feel cold on this winter evening.
So get a wriggle on, drive 5 hours to Townsville and see George and the team for some seafood you will never forget!
