The Day We Got Seriously Ill After Eating At The Lotus Restaurant

This was another trip right towards the end of our stay here in Bali. We had been to the eastern part all day, and we were both shattered and famished. The place was pretty empty, and the menu was limited.

I just wanted a cold drink, so we both ordered a milkshake. Strawberry for Tina and Chocolate for me (these were to be the undoing of us and ultimately led to us staying in Bali an extra few days).

I ordered the Florentine Sandwich which was a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich served with French fried. Tina opted for the Nasi Goreng Lotus which is effectively a satay chicken with rice. A real local dish that we had sampled in many of the places we ate at.

When the food came first impressions were good, that was until I started eating my second half. Turned the bread to find a tiny slug on one of the lettuce leaves. Feeling quite sick I sent that straight back. Appetite instantly disappeared. To be fair, the owner came up and apologised and asked if I wanted anything else from the menu. I just asked for another chocolate milkshake (had I known this would be my downfall).

So the meal should have cost a total of 215,000IDR (approx £11). They wrote off my food and one of my drinks.

If you do eat here, ask if the ice if make from freshwater or local tap water.
