So after a long drive up from Mackay to Townsville, we headed to the local brewery. So we had contacted them in advance in the hope of being given a behind the scenes tour. To our amazement, we had an email back accepting this. So we met up with the head brewer and were shown around.
We saw the huge, and I mean huge vats of alcohol being brewed. from between 3 and 4 weeks, depending on the brew. We were even told about there plans for expansion, and taken upstairs to see their incredible function room.
So after our tour, we had to taste their sample paddle $12 and provides you with around 2 pints of alcohol. This paddle had a small sample of all the brews they make here at the Townsville Brewing Company. You had the following;
- Townsville Bitter Light
- Townsville Premium Bitter
- Bandito Loco
- Belgium Blonde
- Diggers Golden Ale
- Needs Red Irish Ale
- Flanagan Dry Irish Stout
- Specialty
Being the responsible driver, and still having a 2-hour drive to our accommodation for the next couple of nights only sampled a few of the beers. I must admit, I did love the Townsville premium bitter, along with the specialty.
We had worked up an appetite on the drive up, so we had two sharing platters along with the terrine. So we ate some food that I had never eaten before; soft shell crab and deep fried brie. Along with food, we had eaten many times, so pork and prawn spring roll, mushrooms, hummus, gherkins, and terrine.
We absolutely loved the duck wontons and the hoisin sauce. The crispness and the sweetness of the sauce is just heaven on a plate., Tina, however, loved the hummus (she loves a good hummus).
We would highly recommend coming to see the guys here at the Townsville Brewery, the food is delicious. The home-brewed alcohol caters for all whether you love bitter or stout.
