The Royal is a waterfront pub, restaurant on Royal Street in East Perth, Western Australia. The view at night is stunning; you can see Perth’s beautiful skyline as you walk up to the restaurant and with the reflection of the shimmering water is quite romantic.
I had the Barramundi; it was very delicious the fish itself was perfectly cooked, incredibly tender flesh, with crispy edges to the skin. I loved the dill dressing too, it was overall not too much, although a relatively small portion, it was well balanced.
Lee had the pork belly he’d said it was Incredibly soft and tender pork belly, the fat had rendered right down, the crackling was neither too soft and gelatinous or crispy. The sauce didn’t hit the mark, in fact, he found himself liking it less and less as I was eating the meal but I couldn’t see his problem with it as I found it delicious. His rice was great, not too overcooked but was far from al dente. Quite a small portion of the cost he thought.
For dessert, we had Lemon Meringue Pie and Passionfruit Coulis. Not to sharp and came with incredibly light and fluffy meringue too. Lee wasn’t as keen on the cream that lost its whipped state as we were eating it. The pie had an excellent ratio of filling to the meringue and had a delicious lemon curd; it’s always a good sign when it has lemon rind in it. Yummy, I’d take another slice right now, please.
This restaurant was definitely at the top end of the scale, and although I was more on the expensive side of dining out. But the quality was there in our service and in the food we tried.
There was a large function going on, on the night we attended the Royal, but this made no difference to the other side of the dining room. Service was quick, and our server is George he is very friendly, very courteous very knowledgeable and predicated our needs before even we knew them, more water an additional spoon he was there before we could even blink. The Royal has a top quality service, and it makes a difference to a dining experience.
