So, we were heading up to Tamborine Mountain and were told that we needed to stop off here. So with Lees family in the other car, we stopped off at this highly popular food stop Yatala Pies.
Located just off the main highway from Brisbane to the Gold Coast. Yatala Pies is the number one spot to get yourself a pie or two on your way down. There is plenty of on-site parking, it’s free as well (as it should be).
Food Quality
Well, I didn’t eat mine straight away, I had the BBQ Pork Pie (you could have the pie with mash and peas, was thinking why would I want that mess. Do it, they cut the top off and put mash and peas in the pie and put the lid back on). Tina had a Sausage Roll; she said it was nice but nothing too special. She did mention though it was wetter (guess that’s technical speak), compared to the sausage rolls we get back in England.
Value for Money
Both the pie and the sausage roll came to just under $10AUD. We found the food to be a fair price, but we certainly wouldn’t have paid any more for it. I think if memory serves me right the add-ons you could get, so mash and peas cost quite a reasonable price for what it was and the portion you receive. Don’t quote me, but I think it was around ¢80 each.
Atmosphere
It was a quiet day when we went, so empty tables are plenty (as on busy days you have two hopes, Bob Hope, and no hope). The decor is quite dated, which needs freshening up. I don’t know if it has been decorated recently, but it does look rather drab. You go for a reason, take it out and eat it on Surfers Paradise or Burleigh Head beach.
